Notice Subject Headings

• Library of Congress Subject Headings are the classification system that determines the call numbers on library books
• Make a list of Subject Headings related to your topic because it is useful language for searching databases and other academic library catalogs, even if you disagree with the language itself.
• When you identify subject headings, and therefore areas of the library stacks, that are key to your topic, spend time browsing the shelves in that area.  You will always find something through the serendipity of looking in the right place that would have escaped your notice just searching the catalog!

Articles in scholarly journals must have citations and footnotes, and generally go through a peer-review process.

Book reviews are included in most scholarly journals. A search for a book title in Library Search will also display results for book reviews described as "articles" about that title. Pay attention to citations and notice what scholarly journal your article or review is published in.
