Eligibility

Guest borrower cards can be provided by the circulation office to the following qualified residents:

Vassar alumni.  Please contact the CIS Card Office for information about obtaining an Alumni card, which can be used in the library once you have filled out a guest borrower application and have had your card validated at the library circulation desk. 

College faculty and librarians (full or part time) of colleges within the SENYLRC area (counties of Dutchess, Columbia, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster)

Cooperating teachers and field work supervisors upon recommendation of the Education Department Chair or the Field Work Director. Forms are mailed directly to the Circulation department.

Full time school teachers, principals, supervisors, and school librarians who work in school districts within the SENYLRC area (counties of Dutchess, Columbia, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster)

Clergy at local church, temple, synagogue, mosque.

Scholars/writers.  Those who are attached to another institution do not qualify unless they have completed coursework and are writing a thesis/dissertation.

Ask for a guest borrower application at the Circulation Desk or print a PDF version of the application.  Submit the completed application at the Circulation Desk along with an ID proving eligibility (school, college, or program ID card, driver’s license).  

 
 

Policies and Privileges

The resources and services of Vassar College Library are primarily intended to meet the needs of current students, faculty and staff of Vassar College. Guest borrowers are welcome to use the collections and services of the Library during regular building hours.

Library Card: Your library card has been validated and is ready for use. Library cards are to be used only by the person to whom they are issued. Please carry your card at all times when in the library. Your card will need to be updated annually. There is a replacement fee for lost cards.

Main Library Hours:
8:30 am - 12:00 am Monday – Thursday
8:30 am - 10:00 pm Friday
9:00 am - 10:00 pm Saturday
10:00 am - 12:00am Sunday

Vacation Hours
8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday-Friday

Printing: In order to print/copy in the library, you will need to purchase a VPrint card. The VPrint card machine is located in the main library near the CIS Help Desk. The initial card costs $5 and has a value of $3.75. Value can be added to your card as needed.

Interlibrary Loan/Annex Requests: Interlibrary Loan requests must be placed with your public or home library. Request books and journals stored in the Library Annex through the online catalog. Annex items will be delivered within 24 hours barring weekends or unusual circumstances.

Borrowing and Fines: Only 30 items total can be borrowed at one time. Books from the stacks circulate for 30 days with one renewal requested in person. Browsing Collection books circulate for three weeks without renewal. There is a fine of 20 cents per day for overdue books. Reference books and journals do not circulate. Books needed by members of the Vassar community may be recalled and are to be returned immediately upon receipt of a notice. There is a fine of $1.00 per day for recalled books not returned. We will not recall books from Vassar users. Your borrowing privileges will be blocked if you have outstanding fines or overdue books. Pay fines during the following hours:

8:30 am - 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 11:30pm Monday-Friday
2:00 pm - 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm Saturday
10:00 am - 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 11:30 pm Sunday
